On Saturday, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua held a meeting with activist Morara Kebaso in Nairobi, just days after Gachagua revealed his intention to appoint a Gen Z deputy.
Kebaso shared that the discussion focused on important national issues, such as political reforms, youth unemployment, and human rights.
The activist, known for exposing ghost projects, stressed the need for involving various leaders to give the youth a stronger voice in the pursuit of change.
Through a statement on social media, Kebaso mentioned that the talks also covered issues like economic marginalization and the need for justice for victims of violence, abductions, and extrajudicial killings.
He stated, “I will continue engaging leaders from different political, religious, and civic sectors to amplify the youth's voice in their struggle for change.”
This meeting follows Kebaso's participation in the launch of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) alongside Gachagua in Nairobi, an event that also saw the presence of prominent figures like Martha Karua and Kalonzo Musyoka.
Gachagua has been outspoken about the need to integrate younger leaders into the political process.
During a recent media roundtable, he shared plans to appoint a Gen Z deputy leader, emphasizing that the younger generation is not just the leaders of tomorrow but of today.
He believes the combination of his experience and the innovative ideas of Gen Z could offer a balanced leadership approach.
“My party will give them (Gen Z) significant roles, including the deputy party leader position. While I remain the leader, my deputy will be from Gen Z to ensure they have a key role,” Gachagua explained.
Kebaso’s actions suggest a shift in his earlier stance. Just three months ago, he publicly distanced himself from mainstream political parties, declaring his commitment to a new path with the Inject Party.
However, recent collaborations, such as the meeting with Gachagua and his involvement in the PLP launch, indicate a potential realignment.
This change in strategy reflects a pragmatic approach, aiming for meaningful reforms by forming alliances with established political figures.
