President William Ruto has shared details about his intervention in the public dispute between Kenya Power and Nairobi County over the controversial garbage dumping outside Stima Plaza.
Speaking to congregants at the Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu, Nairobi, on Sunday, March 2, 2025, Ruto expressed his dismay over the incident and revealed how he swiftly took action to resolve the matter.
Ruto Intervenes in Stima Plaza Garbage Issue
During the service, Ruto explained how disturbed he was by the situation where Kenya Power and Nairobi County had allowed their conflict to escalate to the point of trash being dumped in public areas.
He disclosed that upon noticing the heap of garbage outside Stima Plaza, he immediately called both Kenya Power's leadership and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to address the issue.
Ruto said, “The other day, they made a mistake, and I called this governor and the others. I told them, listen, this must stop!”
The President ordered Sakaja to take immediate action by removing the garbage and clearing the area.
According to Ruto, the governor quickly responded to his directive and took steps to resolve the situation.
Praise for Sakaja’s Apology and Leadership
President Ruto also commended Governor Sakaja for acknowledging his mistake and publicly apologizing.
He highlighted the courage it took for the governor to admit fault, a quality Ruto believes is often lacking in many leaders when faced with challenges.
"I appreciate the governor because he apologized for the mistake. It takes a courageous leader to say, 'I am sorry.' Congratulations to Governor Sakaja for showing this leadership. Now, we must move forward and work together for the betterment of Nairobi," Ruto emphasized.
MP Beatrice Elachi Calls for Ruto's Continued Support for Sakaja
Earlier in the service, Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi urged President Ruto to continue supporting Governor Sakaja in his efforts to improve Nairobi.
Elachi pointed out that Nairobi residents were deeply concerned about the state of the city, particularly its cleanliness. She believed that with Ruto's backing, Sakaja would be able to meet the residents’ expectations.
“It is good to love and protect our country. We are all here, regardless of our tribes. Is Nairobi not part of our country? Let us support the President and ask him to back our governor in making Nairobi the clean city we all want,” Elachi stated.
