On Thursday, activist Hanifa Farsari took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticize businessman and politician Jimi Wajingi after he called on all Gen Z to march to State House on July 7. Wajingi had asked the youth to come out in large numbers and occupy State House to push for change in the country.
In her post, Hanifa Fasari told Wajingi that if he is serious about the protest, he should first lead with his own family. She added that he should be seen marching with his wife and children to the State House, and then others can follow.
"Don’t send other people’s children to danger. Lead with your family first if you really mean it," she wrote.
The activist also said that some big politicians in Kenya are using Gen Z protests to benefit themselves. She warned that these leaders are only thinking of their political careers and personal goals.
"They are hiding behind Gen Z while chasing their own interests," she added.
Even so, many Gen Z youth have said they will not stop protesting. They want the government to address police brutality, extra-judicial killings, and other problems affecting the country.
On June 25, Gen Z protested in places like Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kiambu. Some buildings were burned, and property destroyed, including government offices and police stations.
