Ronald Nyangoya Ndege, a man from Kisii County, is still in great pain after losing both his wife and daughter on the same date and same month in different years.
He says that life has never been the same again because the double tragedy broke his heart completely.
Speaking during an interview with one of the media houses, Ndege narrated how the tragedy first started last year in August.
He explained that he and his family had traveled to Nyeri County to visit his mother, who lives there. What was supposed to be a normal family visit later turned into one of the darkest days of his life.
“I did not know that was the last day I would see my daughter alive,” he said.
He explained that after they arrived in Nyeri, his daughter went to the washroom. However, as she was returning to the sitting room, she suddenly collapsed and died on the spot.
Ndege said she was not hit by anything, nor did she have any known illness that could have caused the tragedy.
“It was so painful because she was healthy and laughing with us before she fell,” he added.
As if that pain was not enough, Ndege faced another tragedy exactly one year later in August this year. He narrated that his wife suddenly fell sick and started complaining of a very severe headache.
Worried, he rushed her to the hospital where doctors carried out many tests. Unfortunately, the doctors could not find any serious illness that she was suffering from. They only gave her painkillers and advised her to rest.
“I trusted the doctors when they said nothing was wrong, but my heart was still worried,” he explained.
After returning home, things got worse. His wife continued to complain of too much pain. At some point, she told him that it felt as if she had been hit on the head from behind. Ndege recalled that those were her last words to him before she died shortly afterward.
“Those words still remain in my mind because they were the last things she ever told me,” he painfully said.
Now Ndege has been left behind with four children who are depending on him alone. He says the pain of losing his wife and daughter in such a painful way is still fresh in his heart.
“I cry every day when I think about them. It is not easy to be both a father and mother to my children after losing the two people who were my strength,” he said.
