Some leaders who support President William Ruto now say their lives are in danger. They believe that the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, is behind threats meant to silence them.
Speaking on Friday, the leaders were led by Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire. They strongly accused Gachagua of using threats because they do not support his political views.
“Gachagua is not more powerful than God. He cannot decide who should live or die,” said Mbarire during a press address.
Governor Mbarire also shared that she no longer feels safe in her own home. “I have been forced to leave my house and find a hidden place to sleep because I fear for my life,” she said.
She claimed that Gachagua is hunting her simply because she supports President Ruto and refuses to back Gachagua’s plan to divide the country.
Her statement came just hours after Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah also accused Gachagua of planning to harm him and his family.
“He wants to send goons to attack my parents. This is not leadership,” Ichung’wah said.
Ichung’wah also said Gachagua is trying to silence him because he refuses to support ideas that would bring chaos and division in Kenya.
“We must not allow anyone to threaten peace just to gain power,” he added.
