A tragic road accident has left residents of Mutarakwa in Kiambu County in shock after a lorry lost control and crashed on top of a hardware shop, leaving several people feared dead and others seriously injured.
The horrific accident occurred on Saturday afternoon along the Mutarakwa–Maai Mahiu Road, near the Limuru Junction, where the heavy vehicle veered off the road before landing on the rooftop of a building.
Images shared from the scene show the lorry dangling precariously, with its rear wheels suspended in the air and the front cabin completely lodged into the building.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with bystanders and motorists rushing to help trapped victims as emergency responders were called in.
Police officers and rescue teams later arrived at the scene to assist in evacuating the injured and recovering possible victims trapped inside the building.
The exact number of casualties remains unclear, as authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and determine how many people were in the vehicle and inside the hardware store at the time of the crash.
An investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the accident, with early reports suggesting possible brake failure or speeding.
This incident adds to a growing list of tragic road crashes reported across Kenya in recent days.
Earlier: Six Killed in Separate Gilgil Crash
Earlier on Saturday morning, at least six people lost their lives in a separate head-on collision between a bus and a private car at Soysambu near Gilgil along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway.
Police confirmed that all the six victims, who were traveling in the private vehicle, died on the spot. The bodies were taken to Gilgil Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for identification as investigations continue.
Authorities have since urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, citing a worrying surge in fatal accidents across major highways in the country.
