Speaking in Nakuru County on Monday, President William Ruto admitted that the impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is now giving him a serious headache.
In his speech, Ruto said that Gachagua has been moving around the country convincing leaders who support the President to quit the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and form their own political movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ruto explained that this move by Gachagua is very dangerous and could easily divide the ruling party. He said that his energy and focus are fully in UDA, and that his strength as a leader comes from unity, not division.
The Head of State went on to warn some leaders, including Nakuru Governor Susan Kahika, whom he claimed Gachagua is trying to influence to turn against him. Ruto reminded them that loyalty is very important, and those who allow division to take over will only harm themselves politically.
He further warned that if Kahika and other leaders decide to betray him and leave the UDA party, they will regret their actions when 2027 arrives as Kenyans will not vote them back into office for the second term.
“Anyone who thinks they can abandon the party that gave them power will face the consequences. The people of Kenya know who is loyal and who is not,” Ruto said.
