President William Ruto has issued a strong warning to Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, Nakuru Senator, and other elected leaders from the county, cautioning them against abandoning the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party that sponsored them to office.
Speaking in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, the Head of State said that leaders who choose to defect from UDA risk losing their positions in the 2027 general elections.
Ruto emphasized that the people of Kenya, especially from the Mount Kenya region, would not support leaders who betray the party that gave them a platform.
“Na mimi nawaambia nikiwa hapa, mtu akitoka UDA basi huyo hatachaguliwa tena. Kwa maana tuko na track record — barabara tumejenga, maji iko,” President Ruto said.
The President added that his administration has achieved significant development milestones across the country, and leaders should remain loyal to ensure continuity and progress.
He further hit out at individuals he accused of promoting tribal politics and incitement, a remark that appeared directed at his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Ruto said Kenyans will reject leaders who divide the nation along ethnic lines instead of focusing on development.
“Yule jamaa ya ukabila, matusi na uchochezi hafai kusikilizwa. Hana sera, kwa hivyo hatuna muda yake,” Ruto added.
The President urged leaders from the Mt. Kenya region to emulate those who are focused on service delivery and development rather than divisive politics.
His remarks come amid rising political temperatures in the region, with several leaders allied to Gachagua reportedly plotting to form a separate political outfit ahead of the 2027 elections.
