The family of a young girl from Chepseon is mourning after the painful death of their daughter, Yvonne Cherop, who was only 15 years old.

According to reports, Yvonne was one of the brightest students at Getarwet Girls Secondary School in Letein. She was full of hope and dreams for the future. Sadly, her life was cut short after she suddenly began complaining of a severe and endless headache that worsened with time.

Her parents quickly rushed her to one of the hospitals in Chepseon for treatment. Unfortunately, her condition became worse, and the doctors decided to refer her to another hospital in Londiani. There, she was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she continued to receive treatment.

“We were very hopeful that our daughter would recover because she was still young and strong,” the family said.

The parents revealed that they managed to raise Ksh 50,000 as a deposit for her treatment. But after that, they could not raise any more money. Their hopes of saving their beloved daughter ended in tears after Yvonne sadly passed away while still in hospital.

“We had no more money left, and we just prayed she would fight through, but God had other plans,” one family member shared.

The hospital bill quickly grew to a shocking Ksh 1.2 million. The Social Health Authority (SHA) was only able to pay Ksh 140,000, leaving the family with a huge balance that they could not manage.

“We are just an ordinary family. Raising that kind of money is impossible for us,” the parents said.

When the family tried to collect Yvonne’s body to take it home for burial, the hospital declined their request. The management insisted that the outstanding bill must first be cleared before the body could be released.

“We felt broken. Losing our child was already painful, but now we cannot even bury her in peace,” the mother painfully said.

The family is now crying from double pain — first, the loss of their beautiful daughter, and second, the struggle of raising such a huge amount of money just to be allowed to bury her.

“We are appealing to well-wishers and kind-hearted Kenyans to help us, because we cannot do this on our own,” the father added.
