A family in Kitale is crying for justice after losing their loved one in very painful circumstances. Their son, Samson Auma, died while in police custody, and they strongly believe that rogue police officers tortured him before his death.

According to a report by one of the local media houses, Samson was arrested earlier this month. His family said he was supposed to be taken to court on Friday, but that never happened. Instead, they later received the shocking news that he had died while still in custody.

“We were waiting to see him appear before the judge, but then we heard he was gone,” one of the relatives shared.

His mother, Margaret Odhiambo, could not hold back her tears as she remembered the last moments she saw her son alive. She explained that during her final visit to the police cells, she noticed something unusual about Samson’s head.

“His head was swollen, and when I asked him what had happened, he whispered to me that the officers had beaten him,” she painfully recalled.

Margaret said this was the first clear sign that her son was not safe inside the police station.

The grieving mother went on to add that after a few days, she received the heartbreaking news that her son had died. Shockingly, the police report claimed that Samson had harmed himself. However, Margaret said this explanation did not make sense at all.

“How can my son beat himself until his head swells and he dies? That is a lie,” she said in pain.

To get the truth, an autopsy was later carried out on Samson’s body. The family confirmed that the pathologist found he had died because of a blood clot in the veins that transport blood from the heart to the lungs. This was a clear sign of serious internal injury.

“The doctors told us he had internal bleeding caused by heavy beating. My son did not kill himself, he was tortured,” Margaret added, crying uncontrollably.

The family is now demanding justice and asking the government to take action against the officers who were on duty during Samson’s detention.
