Where Is Ndiangui? Court Demands Two Senior Officers to Bring Missing Activist

The High Court has ordered the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, and the head of DCI, Amin Mohamed, to either bring missing activist Ndiangui Kinyagia to court or explain why they haven’t. If they fail, they must appear in court themselves to answer questions.

Ndiangui has been missing for 10 days. The judge says the police must also explain why he hasn’t been taken to court if he's being held.

Ndiangui is known for sharing the protest schedule for the June 25 demonstrations. Just before the protests, he disappeared. His supporters say he was taken because of his bold posts online. One post from June 19 showed plans to march to State House and declare a new republic.

Reports say he was last seen on June 21, after suspected DCI officers raided his house in Kinoo. Amnesty Kenya said six to ten Subaru cars were seen near his home, and his last call was to his mother that Saturday at 1pm.

Since then, police and detectives have stayed silent, not confirming whether they have him or not. Meanwhile, Kenyans online have joined the campaign to demand his release, sharing posts under the hashtag #FreeNdianguiKinyagia.

Rights groups want him released or taken to court if he is being accused of a crime. Holding him without communication is against the law, they say.
