President Ruto Turns Heads in Spain With Rare Rolex Worth Millions

President William Ruto made headlines on Sunday, June 29, not just for his arrival in Seville, Spain, but for a luxury accessory on his wrist that stole the show.

Dressed casually in a bright yellow polo shirt and navy trousers, the president was photographed engaging with diplomats. However, sharp-eyed observers couldn’t help but notice the elegant Rolex watch he was wearing — a rare model that’s highly prized by collectors.

The timepiece is believed to be a Rolex Daytona reference 16528, a classic made in the 1990s. It features an 18-karat yellow gold case and bracelet, along with a sleek black dial and three subdials. The detailed craftsmanship includes a golden bezel with a tachymeter scale and sporty screw-down pushers. What makes it stand out even more is the Zenith El Primero movement inside — a detail that watch enthusiasts rave about.
Market experts say this particular watch, especially one in excellent condition with original packaging and paperwork from Rolex, can fetch between Ksh6.5 million and Ksh8.5 million. The piece on Ruto’s wrist seemed untouched and in pristine condition, which only increases its value.

Wearing this Rolex puts Ruto in the same league as celebrities like Ed Sheeran and Sylvester Stallone, who are known to sport similar models. Interestingly, this isn't the first time someone from the president’s inner circle has made waves with luxury wear. In 2024, First Lady Rachel Ruto was seen wearing a Rolex Datejust 41, another pricey model valued between Ksh2 million and Ksh4 million.

Even earlier in his presidency, Ruto had been spotted with another high-end watch — an IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar made with 18k rose gold. Clearly, style and luxury are part of the presidential wardrobe.
