On Sunday evening, outside a police station in Nairobi County, the father of Albert Ojwang spoke to the media and shared the painful story of what happened to his son. His son had been taken away by police officers on Saturday.
In his statement, the father explained that a group of police officers came to their home. They said they had come to arrest Albert.
"They didn’t even explain anything. They just put handcuffs on him and told him to go with them to the car," the father said.
He also revealed that Albert first refused to go with them because he didn’t understand why people who were dressed in plain clothes wanted to arrest him.
"The officers were many. When they saw he was not willing to follow them, trying to resist arrest, they joined in and used force. They overpowered him and took him away," he added.
The father said when he asked the officers why they were arresting his son, one of them said Albert had offended their boss on the social media platform X.
"They told me, ‘Your son cannot be forgiven. He disrespected our boss online.’ Then they left with him," the father recalled.
However, the father received heartbreaking news the next day. Albert had died while in police custody under unclear circumstances.
"I am very sad. I want justice for my son. He did not deserve to die like this," the father said, holding back tears.
