Outcry as Activist Allegedly Kidnapped by Police, Family Demands His Immediate Release

A serious case has been taken to the High Court after a well-known activist, Ndiangui Kinyangia, mysteriously disappeared. His family and lawyers believe he was kidnapped by men thought to be police officers wearing masks.

The Law Society of Kenya has filed an urgent petition asking the court to force the police and government to bring Kinyangia to court immediately. They want a special court order called a writ of habeas corpus, which is used when someone has gone missing and might be held by the authorities.

The activist was allegedly taken on June 21, 2025, in Kinoo. Witnesses say masked men with guns forced him into unmarked cars with fake number plates. Since then, his family has not heard from him, and they are extremely worried.

According to the petition, no charges have been filed against Kinyangia, and he has not appeared in any court. The lawyers say this is against the law and the Kenyan Constitution, especially Article 49, which protects people from being held without reason.

The petition also wants the court to stop any future secret arrests. The lawyers warn that these actions by the police could lead to bigger national problems and unrest. They say the government must explain where Kinyangia is and stop hiding the truth.
