On Wednesday morning, a major traffic jam was reported along Mombasa Road. According to one of the media houses, the heavy jam was caused by a tragic road accident that happened earlier that morning. The accident blocked part of the road, making it very hard for vehicles to move smoothly.
As a result, many motorists who were in a hurry and needed to get to work or do their daily business were forced to look for other ways to escape the jam. One of the options available was a shortcut through a nearby farm. However, to use this shortcut, the drivers had to pay 100 shillings to a lady who owns the farm.
Speaking to the media, the woman said she allowed people, especially boda boda riders, to pass through her land. She said she felt sorry for them and decided to help — but only if they paid a small fee.
“I felt bad seeing them stuck in traffic. I thought it was good to show them a way through my farm, but I also need to be paid at least 100 shillings,” she said.
She also revealed that the opportunity turned out to be very profitable. Since morning, she claimed to have already made over 100,000 shillings from the motorists who used her land.
“Traffic is still there, and I hope to make even more money by the end of the day,” she added with a smile.
Meanwhile, other motorists on the road expressed their frustration. Many said that the government needs to act fast to clear the road and solve the traffic problem. They said the money they are paying just to avoid the jam is too much for them.
“We are suffering here. The government must do something. Paying 100 shillings just to move is too much,” one driver said.
