On Saturday, Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi sent out a strong warning to the youth, especially Gen Z, ahead of the planned citywide protest scheduled for Wednesday.
Wandayi stated that if the protest goes on as planned, there is a high chance that property in Nairobi and other major towns could be destroyed. He urged young people to avoid actions that may lead to chaos or damage.
Despite the warning, CS Wandayi also acknowledged the concerns raised by Gen Z. He said that the government has already heard their message and is working to respond positively.
“We have received the message clearly from the Gen Z. The government is listening, and we are working to respond to your needs,” he stated.
Wandayi further assured the public that steps are being taken to reduce cases of police brutality during demonstrations. He emphasized that law enforcement officers will be guided by the law and will respect the rights of protesters.
“We will ensure that police officers act within the law. We are working to restore public trust and reduce unnecessary force during protests,” he added.
