Five people pretending to be lawyers for the past 13 years have been caught in Bungoma. They were found running four fake law offices.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK), working with local police, led the operation. Steve Mbugua from LSK said the suspects were using these fake offices to trick people and steal their money.
Important court documents were found during the raid. Mbugua said the fake lawyers had been going to court—both online and in person—pretending to be real lawyers without getting caught. Since 2013, they have been fooling people and taking millions of shillings.
He warned the public to be careful when choosing lawyers. People should ask to see a lawyer’s license or check their name on the official LSK website to confirm they are real.
Mbugua promised that LSK will continue removing fake lawyers and improving honesty in the legal field. Those caught could be jailed for up to three years.
This comes just three months after LSK shut down three other fake law firms in Garissa. Those fake firms worked with internet cafés to trick people by pretending to prepare legal documents and then sending them to the fake offices.
LSK said they inspected law offices in Garissa from February 20 to 22, 2025, and found three of them had no real lawyers at all.
