On Tuesday, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga raised concerns about the growing trend of politicians donating large sums of money to churches, questioning the sources of their wealth. Speaking out on the matter, Odinga expressed his surprise at how politicians, who he did not name, are transporting money in sacks to make donations, all while failing to address the pressing issues facing Kenyans.
“They are carrying a lot of money in sacks to donate to churches, but where is this money coming from? Is it from taxpayers' pockets?” Odinga asked.
The Azimio leader went on to criticize these politicians for focusing on charity donations instead of solving critical problems, such as the ongoing challenges with the Social Housing Agenda (SHA). He urged Kenyans to hold politicians accountable, encouraging them to fearlessly ask any politician seen donating to churches when the SHA will be fixed, as it has yet to show meaningful progress.
Odinga also addressed President William Ruto directly, urging him to ensure that Kenyans' lives improve, as promised during his campaign.
