On Sunday evening, Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai sparked mixed reactions on social media after he predicted that the ODM Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, would leave the party next month in November.
Alai made the remarks shortly after the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying that what he is currently doing is simply wishing Sifuna well before his exit.
However, one of Sifuna’s close allies responded to Alai on X (formerly Twitter), telling him that his political relevance had ended with Raila Odinga’s death.
The ally went on to say that Alai’s influence in politics was only tied to Raila, and now that the ODM leader is gone, he no longer has a voice.
“Your relevance ended with Baba; you are nothing without Raila Odinga,” the ally told Robert Alai, in a message that attracted strong reactions from both sides of the political divide.
Other ODM supporters also fired back at Alai, warning him to stop attacking Sifuna. They defended the ODM Secretary General, saying that Sifuna remains the true voice of the people and a symbol of Raila’s legacy.
Some even warned that if anything happens to Sifuna, then the ODM Party could completely collapse, as he is among the few leaders still holding it together after Raila’s passing.
