On Monday, October 13, 2025, shock and confusion hit State House, Nairobi, after a GSU officer guarding Gate D was brutally murdered by a 56-year-old man who pretended to be a street dweller.
The attacker was later arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) while trying to flee.
According to police reports, the man arrived near the State House gate around 11 a.m., carrying a sack and a spear.
He acted like a homeless man, slowly moving toward the entrance before hiding behind a flower bed close to the gate.
“He looked harmless, like someone just passing by,” said a witness.
Moments later, the suspect approached the GSU officer on duty. When the officer asked to check what was inside his sack, the man quickly pulled out a spear and stabbed the officer in the chest.
The officer collapsed instantly as his colleagues rushed to help him. He was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival due to heavy bleeding.
“It happened so fast, everyone was shocked,” said one police officer who witnessed the scene.
During interrogation, the suspect shocked investigators when he said that he was sent by Satan to carry out the killing.
He reportedly told detectives that he had been hearing voices commanding him to kill, saying, “Satan sent me to finish the work, and my mission is done.”
However, the DCI officers did not believe his explanation. They placed him in custody as investigations continued to determine the real motive behind the brutal attack.
Detectives are also trying to establish whether the man acted alone or if he had been sent by another person.
“We are treating this as a serious security matter, and investigations are ongoing,” said a senior officer familiar with the case.
The incident has left many Kenyans shocked, raising fresh questions about security near key government buildings and the motive behind the attack on a disciplined officer serving at one of the country’s most guarded places.
