The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced the postponement of all teacher promotion interviews that were scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, in light of the national mourning period for the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In an official statement, the commission confirmed that the interviews have been rescheduled due to the government’s declaration of the day as a public holiday in honour of Raila Odinga.
“Following the government’s declaration of Friday, October 17, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of the late Raila Odinga, the Teachers Service Commission has suspended all promotional interviews previously scheduled for that day,” the TSC statement read.
The commission added that the affected interviews will now be held between Tuesday, October 21, and Thursday, October 23, 2025.
Regional TSC directors will communicate the new schedules and logistical details directly to teachers affected by the change.
Promotional interviews are a regular part of TSC’s process to assess and promote teachers across the country.
Earlier, the commission had invited candidates to report to their regional centres, but the public holiday necessitated the postponement.
The interviews follow the August 11, 2025, advertisement of 21,313 promotional posts, for which candidates were shortlisted and given at least seven days’ notice before their scheduled interviews.
Primary school teachers began their interviews on October 6 and 10, 2025, at the sub-county level, with 47,449 teachers shortlisted, while post-primary teachers’ interviews were scheduled from October 13 to October 24 at the county level.
During the same period, interviews for senior principals and curriculum support officers were also conducted at the regional level.
