Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has spoken out emotionally while viewing the body of the late opposition leader Raila Amolo Odinga, revealing that the fallen icon may not have known the true intentions of some of the people around him.
Speaking on Thursday, October 16, at Kasarani Stadium where thousands gathered to pay their last respects, Babu expressed deep pain over Raila’s death, saying Kenya had lost a true champion of democracy and freedom.
“Raila didn’t know the person he was dealing with,” Babu said, in what appeared to be a veiled message directed at those he believes betrayed or mistreated the former Prime Minister.
The outspoken MP described Raila as a mentor, father figure, and fearless reformist who dedicated his entire life to fighting for justice, equality, and good governance.
“I will never destroy Raila Odinga’s legacy. If anything, I will defend it with everything I have,” Babu vowed, receiving loud cheers from the crowd gathered to honour the late ODM leader.
Babu reminded Kenyans that Raila’s vision for an equal and united country must live on beyond his passing, calling on young people to carry forward his dream through unity and determination.
“We must continue the struggle he started. Raila believed in fairness and in a Kenya where every child, regardless of their background, can rise and succeed,” he added.
As thousands of mourners flocked to view Raila’s body, Babu’s heartfelt remarks echoed the deep respect and emotional connection many Kenyans feel toward the veteran politician.
The government has confirmed that Raila will be accorded a state funeral, with world leaders expected to attend.
“Legacies like Raila’s are never buried,” Babu concluded. “They live on in the hearts of the people.”
