A fatal road accident claimed at least six lives early Saturday morning following a head-on collision between a private car and a truck at Soysambu near Gilgil on the busy Nakuru–Nairobi Highway.
The crash, which occurred around 4:00 a.m., left the saloon car completely wrecked. According to police reports, the vehicle was heading toward Nakuru when it collided head-on with an oncoming truck.
All six occupants of the car died instantly at the scene. The number of passengers in the truck remains unclear as investigations continue.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene, moving the bodies to the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for identification. Both vehicles were towed to Gilgil Police Station to aid in the ongoing probe into the cause of the crash.
This tragic incident adds to a series of fatal road accidents that have recently occurred along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway, one of Kenya’s busiest and most accident-prone routes.
In a similar tragedy last month, 12 members of the same family lost their lives at Kariandusi, just a few kilometers from the current crash site. They were travelling to a family gathering in Rongai when their matatu collided with a trailer, killing everyone on board.
Road safety advocates continue to call for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and improved driver awareness to curb the rising number of fatalities on Kenyan highways.
