Tanzanian Gospel Star Honors Raila Odinga with Emotional Tribute Song

Tanzanian gospel singer Christina Shusho has unveiled a heartfelt musical tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Titled “Pumzika Baba”, the song celebrates Odinga’s remarkable life, his dedication to Kenya and Africa, and his courage throughout decades of public service.

Through the lyrics, Shusho highlights the impact of Raila’s political journey and his unwavering commitment to justice and reform.

In a statement released on Friday, October 17, Shusho expressed her solidarity with Kenyans, calling the country her second home.

“Kenya is my second home. My ministry has grown tremendously through the support of my Kenyan family. I stand with you as we celebrate this great son of Africa, Raila Odinga. I had to do this for Kenyans,” she said.

Her song adds a spiritual dimension to the many tributes pouring in from across the continent, as Africa mourns one of its most influential political figures.

Musical Tributes Continue

Shusho joins a growing list of artists who have honored Odinga through music. Kenyan rapper King Kaka recently released a moving song paying homage to the ODM leader, while Benga artist Prince Indah also commemorated him with a heartfelt musical tribute.

Throughout his life, Raila Odinga was known for his love of music, often singing at public events. One of his personal favorites was “Jamaican Farewell” by Harry Belafonte, whose poignant lyrics seemed to mirror the man’s own journey:

“But I am sad to say, I'm on my way, won’t be back for many a day.”

Shusho’s tribute ensures that the late statesman’s legacy resonates not only in politics but also in music and the hearts of Kenyans and Africans alike.
