Shock and confusion hit the public after reports circulated claiming that Collins Jumaisi, the suspected Mukuru Quarry serial killer, had been re-arrested.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since clarified that these claims are false. Jumaisi, linked to the murder of 42 women whose bodies were discovered dumped in Kware, Nairobi, remains at large.
Rumors had suggested that Jumaisi was apprehended in Launda, Vihiga County, following a confrontation with fellow matatu passengers, and was being held at Naivasha Police Station. DCI has firmly denied these reports.
“Our attention has been drawn to information circulating online regarding the re-arrest of Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the grisly Kware murders, who escaped from Gigiri Police Station in August 2024,” the DCI said in a statement. “We wish to clarify that the information about his re-arrest is false, and Collins Jumaisi remains at large.”
Authorities have urged members of the public with information on Jumaisi’s whereabouts to come forward, offering a KSh 1 million reward for tips leading to his capture. Information can be reported to any DCI office or via the toll-free number, 0800722203.
Jumaisi’s Escape and the Ongoing Hunt
Collins Jumaisi previously escaped from Gigiri Police Station last year, along with 12 other inmates. They cut through a wire mesh and scaled the perimeter wall to freedom.
The escape prompted investigations into police conduct, resulting in the arrest of five officers suspected of aiding the breakout.
Before his detention, Jumaisi had been arraigned in court and remanded for 30 days pending investigation. His return to freedom has kept authorities on high alert, as the public remains anxious about the threat he poses.
The DCI has emphasized its commitment to apprehending Jumaisi and holding him accountable for the brutal murders that shocked the nation.
