Sad Day in Kisii as Body of the Late Mary Basweti Nyachae Arrives Home for Burial

The body of the late Mary Basweti Nyachae, daughter to the late veteran politician and former MP Hon. Simon Nyachae, has arrived in Nyosia Village, Kisii County, ahead of her burial scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2025.

According to Gusii Digital News, the remains of Mary Basweti were first airlifted to Arrokyet Airstrip in Sotik before being transferred into a hearse that transported the casket to her ancestral home in Nyosia Village.

The funeral ceremony is expected to draw thousands of mourners from Kisii, Nyamira, and across the country. Mary was not only known as the daughter of one of Gusii’s most influential leaders but also admired for her humility and kindness.

Former Cabinet Secretary for Interior and 2027 presidential hopeful Dr. Fred Matiang’i is among the prominent leaders expected to attend the ceremony. 

He will be joined by several leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties who continue to rally behind his political ambitions ahead of the next general election.

Netizens have taken to social media to mourn and send condolences to the Nyachae family. A user identified as Peter Omesa wrote, “My sincere condolences to Simeon Nyachae’s family. Let her soul rest in peace.”
