RIP: Joy Turns Into Tears as Six Family Members Die in Tragic Murang’a Accident After Dowry Ceremony

A heartbreaking tragedy has struck Gatanga in Murang’a County after six members of the same family lost their lives in a horrific road accident on Saturday night, October 25.

The fatal crash occurred at Wacengu Bridge, where the family’s white minivan reportedly lost control and plunged into River Kiama.

According to police reports, the victims were returning home after attending a dowry ceremony in the Nazareth area of Kiambu County.

Witnesses at the scene said the vehicle veered off the road before plunging into the river. Among the dead were a husband and wife, while six other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kirwara Hospital and Murang’a Level 5 Hospital for treatment.

Rescue teams and residents worked tirelessly through the night to recover the bodies from the mangled wreckage.

Photos shared online showed the vehicle submerged in water, with parts of its frame crushed beyond recognition — a chilling reminder of the crash’s impact.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver might have lost control while navigating a sharp bend on the bridge, though authorities are still probing the exact cause of the accident.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has since sent his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and called for urgent road safety measures along the Chomo–Kihunyo route, a stretch that has witnessed several accidents in recent months.

The devastating news has plunged Gatanga and Kariara wards into mourning, with neighbours describing the victims as a close-knit and loving family whose joyous day of celebration turned into tragedy within hours.

As investigations continue, the community remains in shock — mourning lives lost on a day that was meant to be filled with happiness and family unity.
