Raila Dies: Ruto Convenes Security Council, Cabinet Meetings as Parliament Session Adjourned

Newsrooms across Kenya went into a frenzy on Wednesday morning following reports that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had died while receiving treatment in India.

The unconfirmed reports quickly spread online, prompting the government to act.

According to information shared by insiders, President William Ruto convened an emergency meeting of the National Security Council at 10:00 a.m.

The President was later expected to chair a special Cabinet session at 2:30 p.m. to discuss the unfolding situation.

In Parliament, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula suspended the morning sitting.

“Under Standing Order Number One, I adjourn this session. We shall meet again at 2:30 p.m. when I will make an important communication,” Wetangula announced before leaving the chamber.

Sources within Parliament hinted that lawmakers would be briefed on Raila’s condition during the afternoon sitting.
