As Kenya mourns the passing of veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, attention has turned to a prophecy allegedly issued by Nigerian cleric Primate Elijah Ayodele in December 2024.
According to reports, the prominent prophet had predicted the death of a well-known Kenyan politician in his 2025 prophecy document.
The 90-page prophecy, released on December 22, 2024, outlined expected political and social developments across several countries, including Kenya, and contained warnings directed at presidents, legislators, and key institutions worldwide.
In the section focused on Kenya, Primate Ayodele warned of rising political tensions, economic challenges, and the potential for unrest.
He reportedly urged citizens to pray against the death of a prominent politician, foreseeing the national flag being flown at half-mast.
“Kenya: The President will take steps that could backfire, leading to unrest. Borrowing of funds may spark protests by the youth. Members of Parliament may face threats. There will also be climatic challenges. Opposition will rise against the President, and two governors may face impeachment. Pray against the death of a prominent politician, as I foresee the country flying his flag at half-mast,” the prophecy read in part.
Raila, who served as Kenya’s Prime Minister and a long-standing opposition figure, died at the age of 80 while receiving medical treatment in India on Wednesday.
Primate Ayodele has been a frequent topic of debate on social media due to the accuracy of some of his past prophecies.
In 2022, he predicted President William Ruto’s victory over then-opposition leader Raila Odinga, emphasizing that Ruto should focus on strategies targeting Mount Kenya, youth, and women.
In September 2025, the cleric advised DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua to support candidates backed by the Gen Z generation rather than pursuing his own presidential ambitions for 2027, claiming only Gen Z-supported candidates could unseat Ruto.
Earlier in May 2025, Ayodele warned that Ruto’s political fortunes were declining and that his 2027 re-election bid might be at risk, citing the potential removal of former Deputy President Gachagua as a critical turning point.
