Tension continues to grip the nation after an autopsy report revealed the shocking cause of death of GSU Constable Ramadhan Mattanka, who was killed in a bizarre bow-and-arrow attack at State House, Nairobi on Monday, October 13.
According to the post-mortem conducted on Tuesday, October 14, Mattanka died after an arrow pierced through his ribs, punctured his lung, and tore through his heart, leading to massive internal bleeding.
The report confirmed the fatal strike hit between his left seventh and eighth ribs, shattering vital organs before exiting through his chest.
The officer, who was manning Gate D—a restricted entry point reserved for the President’s staff and key visitors—was reportedly shot by a man identified as Kithuka, who had attempted to gain access to the premises.
Investigations reveal that the assailant had disguised himself as a street family member and carried a sack concealing a bow and arrows.
After being turned away by the officers on duty, he allegedly waited for a distraction, then launched a sudden and deadly attack, striking Mattanka in the chest.
Despite being rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, the officer was pronounced dead on arrival. Moments later, other GSU officers subdued and arrested the suspect before he could flee.
However, emerging CCTV footage has since raised more questions than answers. Sources close to the investigation disclosed that the two men were seen engaged in a 17-minute exchange before the fatal strike, fueling speculation that the attack may have stemmed from a personal dispute rather than a random act of violence.
The incident has triggered an urgent review of security measures at one of the country’s most secure compounds, as detectives now work to uncover whether Kithuka acted alone or was part of a wider plot.
Mattanka, a devoted Muslim, will be laid to rest later today in Kajiado County after investigators requested a short delay in his burial to complete forensic examinations.
