In Kakamega County, sadness and shock have hit residents after a well-known ODM politician was involved in a terrible road accident that claimed his life on Tuesday afternoon.
The tragic incident happened as he was rushing his sick daughter to the hospital.
According to reports, the Politician, identified as Jacob Oparanya, who was an MCA aspirant and a strong supporter of the ODM Party, was riding a motorcycle to the hospital.
Witnesses said he was in a hurry to save his daughter’s life when the tragedy occurred along the busy Kakamega–Mumias road.
Sources say that a matatu driver lost control of his vehicle and hit Oparanya’s motorcycle from behind. The impact threw him onto the road.
Sadly, at that very moment, a speeding truck transporting sugar ran over him, smashing his head. Oparanya died instantly at the scene as onlookers watched in horror.
Police officers later arrived and moved his body to a nearby morgue in Kakamega County as investigations began. One of the witnesses said,
“It was a very sad scene. He was only trying to save his daughter’s life, but fate took him away.”
The accident has left residents and ODM supporters in deep mourning, describing Oparanya as a humble and hardworking leader who always cared for his community.
