"Let IEBC Do Its Job": Ruto Warned as Details of What He Has Started Doing Ahead of 2027 Emerge After Raila’s Death

Speaking on Monday, lawyer and political commentator Wahome Thuku sent a strong message to President William Ruto.

Thuku warned the Head of State to allow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to make independent decisions regarding the upcoming 2027 general elections.

He noted that the IEBC is the only body with the constitutional power to manage elections in Kenya and that no politician should attempt to control it.
In his statement, Thuku claimed that President Ruto has been making remarks suggesting he already knows who Kenyans will vote for — and who they will reject — in 2027.

According to Thuku, this is a dangerous way of speaking that could create fear among citizens and mislead them into believing that the elections are already predetermined.

“The president should not speak as if he is the one to decide who wins or who loses. That is the job of the IEBC,” Thuku said.

He further warned that if President Ruto continues with such statements, Kenyans might turn against him in the next election, viewing his words as an attempt to interfere with their democratic right to freely choose their leaders.

“If he continues like this, the people may reject him, and his votes will not be enough to return him to office for another term,” Thuku cautioned
