Equity Bank customers were on Saturday, October 25, 2025, hit by an unexpected outage affecting bank-to-mobile wallet transfers, disrupting payments and daily transactions across the country.
In a public statement, the lender confirmed that it was experiencing a technical glitch that had temporarily halted transfers from bank accounts to mobile money platforms such as M-Pesa, Airtel Money, and T-Kash.
“We are currently experiencing a service interruption affecting bank-to-mobile wallet transactions. Our technical team is working to restore services as soon as possible,” the bank announced.
However, Equity also used the moment to caution users against fraudsters, warning that scammers often exploit such system downtimes to impersonate bank officials and steal customer information.
“Please note that Equity only contacts customers through one verified number — 0763 000 000. Do not share your PINs, passwords, or OTPs with anyone claiming to be from the bank,” the notice read.
The interruption comes at a time when most Kenyans heavily rely on digital banking and mobile money transfers for everyday payments, business transactions, and remittances.
Equity urged users to remain patient and vigilant as its team works to restore full functionality to all systems.
