As alleged by one of the local media houses, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reportedly received a late-night warning from his close allies urging him to flee the country.
According to the report, the message warned him that the government, through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), is planning to arrest him tomorrow morning.
In a statement shared online, Kevin Masheta, a blogger and strong supporter of Gachagua from Vihiga County, claimed that sources close to the security agencies had revealed that the DCI had already received orders to apprehend the former deputy president.
“I have received information from reliable sources that the DCI officers have been instructed to arrest Rigathi Gachagua anytime tomorrow. He should take this warning seriously,” Masheta was quoted saying.
Masheta went on to allege that the move to arrest Gachagua is politically motivated. He claimed that the government is targeting Gachagua because of his growing popularity among Kenyans and his open criticism of certain government decisions.
“They want him silenced because he speaks the truth and stands with ordinary citizens. The support he enjoys from people across the country is what scares them,” he added.
The alleged warning has caused anxiety among Gachagua’s supporters, who are demanding that the government come clean on the matter.
However, by the time of publishing, neither Gachagua nor the DCI had issued an official statement confirming or denying the claims.
