ODM Sets Eyes on By-Elections: Will Raila’s Party Pull Off a Clean Sweep?

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders have declared that the party is ready to dominate in the upcoming November by-elections, promising supporters nothing short of victory.

Speaking at Chungwa House in Nairobi while handing certificates to nominated candidates, ODM Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga said the party has only one mission — winning every seat it has fielded.

“Our task is clear. Every constituency and every ward where we have a candidate must be delivered. ODM is not just a party; it’s a national movement,” Wanga insisted.

She further reminded members to follow the guidance of ODM leader Raila Odinga without question.

“When Raila says right, we move right. If he says left, we move left. If he says fire, then it’s fire,” she said, drawing applause from party loyalists.

The by-elections will be held in constituencies such as Kasipul Kabondo and Ugunja, where ODM faces off with rival parties.

Unity, Loyalty, and a Warning to Rivals

ODM officials emphasized that the party remains the largest in the country, with unmatched grassroots support. Suna East MP Junet Mohamed praised ODM candidates for standing firm instead of defecting to other political outfits.

“This is the only party with a true national outlook. ODM is here to stay,” Junet said, dismissing claims that the party is losing ground.

He also fired shots at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of leading a tribal outfit disguised as a national party.

“If you want to know what a real party looks like, build one first. Then we will teach you how to run it,” he added.

Junet doubled down on ODM’s 2027 ambitions, stressing that the party will form the next government with or without alliances.

“ODM is not destined for opposition. That era is long gone,” he declared.

Grassroots Firepower

The leaders also announced a major celebration in Mombasa to showcase ODM’s grassroots muscle, reassuring candidates that the party machinery is fully behind them.

Narok County ODM Chairperson Nalengoyo Torome echoed that sentiment, saying ODM remains the only political home for the Maasai people.

“We in Narok, Kajiado, and across the Rift Valley stand solidly with ODM. No other party protects our rights like this one,” Torome said.

He urged leaders to strengthen local structures and work in unity to cement ODM’s dominance ahead of 2027.

Candidates Cleared for Battle

Among those cleared to contest are Boyd Were (Kasipul Kabondo) and Moses Omondi (Ugunja). Certificates were also issued for candidates in Kariobangi North, Narok Town, Nyamaiongo, and Nyamaiya wards.

As ODM heads into the heated mini-polls, all eyes are now on whether Raila’s troops will truly deliver the clean sweep they’ve promised — or if rivals will pull a surprise.
