Hunt for Mukuru Quarry Suspect as DCI Dangles Ksh1M Bounty on Fugitive Serial Killer

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has placed a Ksh1 million reward on the head of Collins Jumaisi, the man accused of being behind a series of brutal killings at Mukuru Quarry.

Jumaisi, who confessed to killing at least 42 people — including his own wife — has been on the run since August 20, 2024, when he escaped from Gigiri Police Station under mysterious circumstances. Despite several crackdowns, he remains at large.

DCI Turns to the Public

On Tuesday, September 30, the DCI appealed to the public for help, urging Kenyans to share any information that could lead to Jumaisi’s arrest.

“The National Police Service hereby pledges a cash reward of Ksh1 million to anyone who provides credible information that will assist in the re-arrest of the suspect,” the agency said in a statement.

DCI also listed ways the public can get in touch:

Toll-free hotline: 0800 722 203

WhatsApp: 0709 570 000

Emergency numbers: 999, 911, or 112

Or by walking into the nearest police station.

A Notorious Escape

Jumaisi was being held alongside 12 other suspects, most of them Eritreans, when they slipped out of custody at Gigiri. Reports at the time suggested the group simply “walked out through the main door,” raising serious questions about police complicity.

Five officers were later arrested over the botched security lapse but were freed on bond as investigations continued.

This isn’t the first time DCI has tried to entice tipsters with cash. A similar bounty campaign was rolled out in October 2024, though details of that reward were never made public.

Shocking Discoveries

When police first raided Jumaisi’s home in July 2024, they recovered an assortment of items linking him to the grisly murders:

24 SIM cards, multiple phones, laptops, and hard drives

A machete, nylon sacks, ropes, and industrial gloves

Women’s personal items, including handbags and undergarments

Illegal drugs, title deeds, and notebooks

Authorities believe these items were part of the evidence trail tying Jumaisi to the string of killings, most of which involved women whose bodies were found dumped in Kware.

A Killer Still on the Loose

The man once described as one of Kenya’s most dangerous killers has now been free for over a year — an unsettling thought for many Nairobi residents. With a million shillings now on the table, the question remains: will Jumaisi finally be smoked out, or will the elusive fugitive outwit authorities once again?
