Just In: Tension as Activist Claims KNH Staff Blocking Her from Visiting Musk Vendor Shot by Police

On Saturday, human rights activist Hanifa took to her social media to claim that the staff at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) are blocking her from visiting Boniface Kariuki.

Kariuki, a young vendor who sells musk, is currently fighting for his life after being shot in the head by a police officer during a recent protest in Nairobi.

Hanifa expressed her frustration, saying that whenever she tries to go to the hospital, she is not allowed to enter.

According to her, even if she reaches the hospital gate, the staff quickly run to close it so that she cannot go inside.

“I don't know what I did to deserve this treatment. Every time I go there, the gate is shut before I even say a word,” she posted on her social media.

She went on to add that the hospital only allows Kariuki’s close family members to visit him.

“No activist, no politician, not even government officers are allowed to see him. Only the family,” she wrote.

Hanifa made the statement in response to a Kenyan on social media who had asked her to give an update on Kariuki’s condition. In her reply, she said that she had received some worrying information from doctors at KNH.

Earlier, Hanifa had claimed that out of the seven doctors handling Kariuki’s case, only one believes that he will survive. The other six, according to her, have told her that the young man may not make it.

“It’s heartbreaking. One doctor is hopeful, but six others say things don't look good,” she said in her post.
