As reported by tuko, on Saturday, President William Ruto came under fire after reports claimed he is trying to protect Deputy Inspector General Lagat from being held responsible for the death of blogger Albert Ojwang.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua spoke out strongly, saying that Ruto is shielding DIG Lagat instead of letting the right agencies like the DCI and IPOA handle the matter.
“This is a serious case. The president should let the law take its course," Gachagua said.
He went on to say that he knows Ruto very well and believes he is covering up for officers who break the law. According to him, this is wrong and harmful to justice.
“The president must stop protecting bad officers. That’s not good leadership,” he added.
Gachagua also said IPOA and the DCI are currently investigating the death of Ojwang because he is watching the process closely. He warned that if he was not involved, the case might have already been swept under the rug.
Gachagua asked Kenyans who are demanding justice for Albert Ojwang and other victims of police violence to thank him. He said he is playing a key role in making sure justice is served.
