On Thursday, a UDA senator called on the government to speed up the processing of National Identity Cards, suggesting that Kenyans should receive their IDs within 48 hours of applying. The senator expressed his satisfaction with President Ruto’s recent move, which he believes demonstrates the president’s commitment to the people. Ruto’s declaration that no Kenyan should pay a fee to apply for an ID was hailed by the senator as a major step forward.
The senator also emphasized that this announcement would be a major headache for Ruto’s political opponents, whose previous strategy had involved charging Kenyans hefty fees for the IDs. He went on to criticize opposition politicians, asserting that Ruto’s actions would win the hearts of Kenyans and pave the way for his reelection in the next election.
However, the senator’s praise of Ruto did not sit well with many Kenyans on social media, who swiftly turned against him, accusing him of blindly supporting the president.
