On Friday, ODM Governor Gladys Wanga was given a notice to present herself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.
This came after she allegedly made inappropriate remarks against the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Earlier, in a video seen by Vihiga.xyz on TikTok, politicians allied to Mr. Gachagua strongly condemned the Homa Bay Governor.
They accused her of disrespecting their leader and going against what the late Raila Odinga stood for — peace and unity. One of the politicians, Cleophas Malala, said, “The late Raila Odinga always preached unity and respect. It is sad to see leaders using this difficult time to attack others.”
Another close ally of Mr. Gachagua revealed that they had already reported the matter to the DCI. He claimed that Governor Wanga was given three hours to surrender herself, warning that if she failed to do so, an arrest warrant would be issued against her.
The politician further argued that Gladys Wanga’s remarks amounted to hate speech, explaining that while freedom of speech is allowed, it should not be used to spread division or hatred.
He said, “Freedom of speech is not freedom to insult. Her words could easily create tension between Mount Kenya and Nyanza communities.”
He concluded by urging other leaders to show respect to Rigathi Gachagua, saying, “The Deputy President has never used hate speech, even when accused. He deserves the same respect from all leaders.”
