On Wednesday, the ODM Party reportedly stopped former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from visiting the late Raila Odinga’s grave in Bondo, Siaya County.
Gachagua was said to have planned a private visit to pay his tribute to the late leader, but ODM officials allegedly denied him permission, saying he had no moral ground to do so.
A few hours later, another politician from the Central region, was also banned from setting foot in Siaya County to see Raila’s grave.
Sources close to the party said the decision was made immediately after reports spread that Kahiga wanted to visit the site.
According to the reports, both Gachagua and Kahiga were blocked because they had previously made disrespectful remarks against Raila Odinga. ODM officials said such comments were painful and could hurt the feelings of Raila’s grieving family and supporters.
“You cannot insult someone when alive and pretend to honor them after death,” one party member was quoted saying.
However, ODM has vowed to continue taking strict action against any leader who shows disrespect toward Raila Odinga.
The party insisted that those who spoke ill of him will never be allowed to visit his resting place in Bondo.
“We will protect his legacy even in death,” another official stated firmly.
