Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has launched a fiery attack on ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, branding him a hypocrite and a political opportunist following Sifuna’s endorsement of the proposed broad-based government in the aftermath of Raila Odinga’s death.
In a sharply worded statement, Salasya dismissed Sifuna as a mere political broker, claiming that the Secretary General’s strength lies only in his “empty English” rather than meaningful leadership.
The youthful MP argued that Sifuna’s recent support for a unity government betrays the ideals Raila Odinga championed and signals that opportunists have taken control of ODM.
“So you are in a broad-based setup even when the government blunders? That’s not unity — that’s cowardice,” Salasya declared, accusing ODM under Sifuna of losing its moral compass.
Salasya further criticized the party for straying from its original 10-point agenda, emphasizing that none of the promises to the people have been fulfilled. “ODM has become a shell — loud in words, empty in action,” he said.
Warning of the consequences of ODM’s current trajectory, Salasya said it risks alienating its grassroots supporters, who have historically viewed the party as a voice of resistance and reform.
“The party was built on sweat and struggle, not on tea meetings and photo sessions in State House,” Salasya added, cautioning that ODM could transform from a movement into a monument.
His remarks highlight growing tensions within the opposition, between ODM loyalists favoring government cooperation and those insisting the party remain the watchdog of the people.
As Kenya’s political landscape realigns, Salasya’s outspoken words have once again ignited debate and controversy, underscoring the deep divisions within the opposition.
