Revealed: Number of Suspects Who Have Been Arrested After Stolen Raila's Bodyguard Pistol Was Recovered in Kisumu

Blogger Abuga Makori has reported that a Jericho pistol stolen from a General Service Unit (GSU) officer during the funeral of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been recovered in Kisumu. The firearm was allegedly found inside a small house in Mbeme, one of the city’s densely populated informal settlements.

According to the claims, four young men in their late teens were arrested during an early morning raid conducted by security officers. Investigators reportedly acted on intelligence indicating that the missing pistol was being kept in the slum and was about to be sold on the black market.

The pistol, believed to have been loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, was found lying on the floor of a poorly lit room while the suspects were allegedly discussing how to dispose of it.

The stolen firearm belonged to a GSU officer assigned to Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa’s protection team during Raila Odinga’s funeral at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University in Siaya County.

Chaos erupted at the main gate as thousands of mourners pushed through security barriers, during which a group of youths allegedly snatched the pistol and disappeared into the crowd.

Investigators claim the weapon changed hands several times before being traced to Kisumu. The arrested suspects were taken to Kisumu Central Police Station for questioning, and further arrests are expected as authorities follow leads regarding the original theft.

The incident has raised concerns about security challenges during the large-scale funeral, where many mourners reported losing valuables amid the disorder.

Blogger Makori suggested that the recovery of the pistol could help restore confidence among officers who were on duty that day.

The suspects are expected to face charges related to handling stolen government property once investigations are complete.
