Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Siaya County – Preparations are in full swing for the burial of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, whose sudden death in India on Wednesday, October 15, left Kenya in deep mourning.
A tractor could be seen earlier today at his rural home in Bondo, digging the grave where the fallen statesman will be laid to rest beside his father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
The elder Odinga, who passed away more than 30 years ago, was also a respected national leader and Kenya’s first Vice President after independence.
Residents who gathered at the homestead described the scene as both emotional and symbolic — a father and son united once again in the same resting ground.
Many said the sight reminded them of the Odinga family’s long contribution to Kenya’s political history and democracy.
Raila’s death shocked the nation. He collapsed while receiving treatment at an Ayurvedic eye hospital in Kerala, India, and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. To continue reading click here.
