“ODM Won’t Die After Raila”: Governor Nassir Issues Bold Declaration Amid Party Uncertainty

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has broken his silence on the future of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), asserting that the party will not be relegated to the opposition after the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a public gathering in Mombasa, Nassir dismissed claims that ODM’s influence would fade following Raila Odinga’s potential transition to continental leadership.

His remarks appeared to counter earlier statements by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who had insisted that ODM would field its own presidential candidate and warned members against twisting Raila’s message.

According to Nassir, ODM remains one of the most resilient and organized political forces in Kenya. He emphasized that the party’s strong grassroots structures, reform-driven ideology, and loyal supporters ensure its continued relevance in the country’s political arena.

“ODM is not going anywhere. We are a party built on values, vision, and the people’s trust. 2027 will not find us in the opposition—we are preparing to lead,” Nassir declared.

Political analysts have described Nassir’s remarks as a reflection of emerging divisions within ODM’s leadership over the party’s direction beyond Raila Odinga.

While Sifuna has maintained a cautious tone aligned with Raila’s long-term strategy, Nassir’s confident stance projects readiness for a post-Raila political era.

The Mombasa governor also urged party members to remain united and disciplined, warning that internal wrangles could weaken ODM’s standing ahead of the next elections.

He encouraged leaders to focus on strengthening grassroots mobilization, policy development, and service delivery to restore public confidence.

Nassir reaffirmed that ODM’s core values—reform, social justice, and equity—will continue to guide the party and inspire millions of Kenyans who believe in Raila Odinga’s vision.

His comments come amid growing curiosity about ODM’s future leadership and strategy after decades under Raila’s stewardship.

As the 2027 race draws nearer, the party’s ability to manage internal dynamics and sustain national appeal will determine whether Nassir’s bold confidence becomes political reality.
