Outspoken lawyer and government critic Dr. Miguna Miguna has reignited political tensions after launching a scathing attack on Dr. David Ndii, the Chair of President William Ruto’s Council of Economic Advisors.
The fiery lawyer’s remarks came just hours before his much-anticipated return to Kenya, setting the stage for a renewed confrontation with the government.
Miguna’s reaction was triggered by Dr. Ndii’s defense of Daadab MP Farah Maalim, who recently sparked public outrage after stating that he would have “murdered more than 5,000 Gen Zs” if he were the President of Kenya.
Dr. Ndii, in a statement shared on social media, argued that Maalim’s comments were political speech protected by the Constitution, noting that there is a distinction between political rhetoric and personal attacks on vulnerable individuals.
According to Ndii, while Maalim’s statement could be strongly disagreed with, mocking a person with disability online was “outright cruelty.”
However, Miguna dismissed Ndii’s justification as “moral bankruptcy,” arguing that it was ethically wrong to equate mass killings with online mockery.
“Mocking and laughter cannot be compared with the summary execution of thousands of people. One constitutes genocide, the other is mere stupidity. There is no comparison between a crime against humanity and foolishness,”
stated Dr. Miguna Miguna.
The fiery lawyer maintained that calling for the slaughter of citizens is not protected speech, insisting that such statements amount to incitement and criminality.
Miguna’s sharp rebuke has ignited fresh debate online, with Kenyans divided over whether Farah Maalim’s comments were protected political speech or incitement to violence.
Miguna is expected to address the press upon arrival in Nairobi later today, where he is likely to clarify his stance on the matter and outline his next political moves.
