Speaking live on TikTok on Thursday, a Kenyan youth whose name was not given claimed he had been paid to kill Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The man said the offer came from people he would not name and that they had told him to finish the job in 72 hours.
"They told me to do it in three days," he said during the live video.
In the same live statement, the man said the pay for the job was three million shillings.
"They gave me three million," he said, adding that the money was meant to buy his silence and make him carry out the plan.
He said the people who hired him gave strict rules and a short time to act.
However, the man surprised many by saying he would not kill the MP. He told viewers that even though he had taken the money, he could not harm a leader who stands with ordinary Kenyans.
"I will chew the money but I will not do the job," he said, showing he had thought deeply about his choice.
He asked Kenyans to come out and protect the MP. He warned that if people do not stay alert, someone else might take the job.
"I have taken the cash and refused. But another hitman might be hired if you do not protect him," he warned in the video.
At the end of his live talk, the man said he was a killer by past acts but that he sometimes felt mercy. He said his faith and the commandment "Thou shalt not kill" stopped him from going through with the plan.
"I am a murderer, but I have mercy sometimes," he said. Security agencies should take the claims seriously and investigate the matter to keep public leaders and citizens safe.
