Gachagua Hosts a Massive Party at His Home With Family as Rumours of Him Not Attending Raila's Burial Persist

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sparked debate online after hosting a massive family party at his rural home in Wamunyoro, even as controversy continues to swirl over his absence from the late Raila Odinga’s state funeral.

According to a post shared by the impeached deputy president on his official Facebook page, the event was organized to celebrate the 59th birthday of his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.

The lavish celebration, which featured close family members and friends, came just a day after the state funeral for Raila Odinga was held at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi County, a ceremony that was attended by leaders from across Kenya and Africa — but notably not by Gachagua.

Photos shared online showed the couple smiling and dancing together as guests joined in the celebration.

The cheerful event stood in sharp contrast to the somber mood that gripped the country during Raila’s burial.

Reactions:

Kenyans on social media had mixed opinions over Gachagua’s move.

Some praised him for celebrating his wife’s special day, while others questioned the timing of the event.

Here are a few reactions from Kenyans online:

"Let the man enjoy his family time. Life must go on despite politics," one user commented.

"It was disrespectful not to attend Baba’s funeral. Even if there were issues, he should have shown unity," another said.

"Happy birthday to Pastor Dorcas. She deserves all the love from her family," added another.

"He is just making a statement that he’s done with political drama," one wrote.
