Speaking in Bondo, Siaya County on Sunday during the burial ceremony of the late former prime minister Raila Odinga, Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga addressed mourners about the direction of the ODM Party.
She said that the party is still committed to following the instructions Raila Odinga gave them before his passing.
“We remain loyal to the values and vision Raila set for us,” Wanga said.
She added that ODM is still part of a broad-based government and will continue working with President William Ruto, even as the 2027 elections approach.
Wanga emphasized that as the ODM chair, she will ensure there is no confusion about the party’s direction.
“We will cooperate with all partners to ensure stability and unity,” she explained.
However, immediately after making the remarks, before she could continue, some mourners, including leaders aligned with President Ruto, stood up and started chanting, “Two terms! Two terms!”
The chants briefly interrupted the speech, creating a dramatic moment during the emotional event.
Wanga quickly regained composure and concluded her point by affirming that the Luo community will back President William Ruto as a sign of honoring Raila Odinga’s legacy.
“Supporting him is not betrayal; it is a way to respect and continue Raila’s dream for our nation,” she stated, earning nods from the audience.
