Starehe Member of Parliament Amos Mwago Maina has issued a stern warning to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership, cautioning them against allowing President William Ruto to interfere with the party’s internal affairs following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Taking to social media, Mwago likened Ruto’s potential involvement in ODM to bringing a bedbug into one’s home, warning that even the slightest association could destroy the party from within.
“The worst mistake that ODM can do is let Ruto insert even a toe in the party. We all know the story of bedbugs — once you carry one home, that’s where the problem begins,” Mwago wrote.
The MP urged ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to remain firm and protect Raila Odinga’s political legacy, emphasizing that their loyalty will determine the party’s future.
“Ruto will make sure the ODM legacy goes down the drain. To my brothers Sifuna and Babu Owino — you only have one job, just one — to protect the legacy Baba Raila Odinga left behind,” he added.
Mwago’s remarks come amid reports of internal friction within ODM following Raila Odinga’s state funeral in Bondo, Siaya County, on October 19, 2025.
The legislator suggested that some party members appeared to be drifting toward Ruto’s government, betraying the late opposition leader’s vision.
“If you paid attention to what Sifuna and Orengo said at Baba’s send-off, you’d clearly see that only a few loyal soldiers are still standing. Some so-called supporters are already in bed with the government — it’s just a matter of time before the truth comes out,” he noted.
Mwago’s comments have sparked conversations online, with many ODM supporters agreeing that Raila’s political legacy must be shielded from infiltration and political manipulation.
